EasyMarble Vol 2
marble in bathrooms and kitchens |
Description |
| Price Euro 30,00 |
This is the second volume in the monographic series.
Following what may be more than a simple fashion trend, marble, granite and stone are being given more room in the design of bathrooms and kitchens; room that doesn't necessarily refer to greater areas covered with them but - and here is what's new - to greater elasticity of use, in which the stone element, rather than utilized in the traditionally exclusive way, is combined with other materials such as wood, ceramic tile, glass, in team-ups that make it possible to abandon preset schemes and explore thoroughly customized solutions.

La pietra nell'arredo urbano |
Description |
| Price Euro 47,00 |
The recent term "urban decor" commonly signifies all the functional elements, with their details, that comprise the urban scene. In this context stone, today as in the past, can and does play an important role because of its high prestigious appearance, its expressive and symbolic connotations and its resistance and endurance.
The technologies currently used to work stone, and particularly to produce elements destined for urban fixtures, are delineating new scenarios impossible to imagine until today.
There are a great examples of many modern and contemporary use. By now it is time to write a balance sheet of their positive aspects and possible limitations. In any case treasuring these valuable experiences for the future.

The book deals with the topics of marble quarrying in its various components and is intended to be a full and exhaustive guide describing in detail all the technical and commercial aspects inherent to this work. The text is highly technical and follows a scheme in which the various aspects of quarrying work are shown to be reciprocally connected, giving a global picture of the subject matter. The main topics are :
- problem of classifying and to the commercial characterisation of stone materials, including the technical properties required to their use as dimension stone
- morphological and functional characteristics of the quarries and quarrying technique and machinery. Technical and economic characteristics of the quarry output
- technical/economic assessment of the quarry area and exploitation plan. Criteria of economic management and environmental evaluation impact
- picture of the world marble availability and showing the main production areas, by commercial types.

The stone industry worldwide: current state and trend |
Description |
|
|
A study of the current state of the world stone industry and its ongoing or potential trends in term of production, business and technology. It is based both on statistics and on information gathered directly from sector operators working in various fields. The book also includes a bibliography of sector publications.
This report has been organized to provide the reader with an organic view, following the same route taken by the types of work that characterize the stone industry as a whole.
Its departure point is therefore an examination of raw materials production, this is followed by an analysis of the processing stage as carried out in individual countries. We then examine the business aspect, showing worldwide stone sales of different materials and finished products, both simple and special, giving a picture of the major importer and exporter countries. Finally, we take a look at stone consumption in individual countries and on the global level, estimating the amounts consumed by the major use destinations.

In the development of the ornamental stone industry that has accompanied the evolution of architectural thinking over the past decades, the commercial category called stones has always played – at least in big-figure terms – a minor role compared to the marble and granite categories. In fact, the most common contemporary uses of lithic materials have been such that stones, for an ensemble of factors characterizing them (availability, technical properties, work possibilities, etc.), have often been in competition with the other categories and less preferred, perhaps due to decisions made without due objectivity.
As we know, this has not always been the case. On the contrary: in the past, stones were the easiest building materials to find and use, especially as support structures for urban constructions like piazzas, palaces, castles, subsequently adorned with the right amount of premium marble. Therefore, for their use in the past, stones can be rightly considered reminders of history in Italian towns, in patrician dwellings as in peasant hamlets, becoming the constructive element par excellence for “cultural heritage” and taking on the worth these assets have today.
In fact, today the decision to use a stone is always based on an aesthetic need, taken in the widest sense and ranging from color/pattern to pure perception of the material, and as a consequence it is spontaneously limited to applicative solutions that fully justify its use.
But what is a stone? It is hard to give a precise answer. Commercially, a stone is everything that is neither marble nor granite and that normally cannot be polished, and its utilization is often intended to transmit the sensation of a warm, natural, ancient material, elegant but also resistant. From the lithological standpoint this translates into a very vast range of rocks, which, although most typically represented by sandstones, also include volcanic rocks, limestones, gneiss and other metamorphic lithotypes. It may happen that the same material is interpreted as a stone rather than a marble or granite if the way it is worked transmits the aforesaid sensations.
And it is in this wider meaning of the term that we have selected the materials to include in this volume.
Which we have limited to Italian stones, in order to emphasize the great extraction patrimony that has been drawn from throughout history, a unique basin from which to quarry material able to establish a cultural continuum between the past and architecture, be it in restoration or innovative. In providing information on each stone variety, we include a specific commercial reference so that designers may have a reliable source to help them select and use the material presented.
